The original pattern for this is on Craft Cookie, and I used it to make a nice cowl for my sister. I added a simple border.
Materials:
-knitting needles, size 6.5 mm or US 10.5
-steel yarn needles, size 7cm (for sewing finished ends together)
-2 balls of Cozy Wool yarn by Loops and Threads (spearmint colour)
The following pattern is the one I used and modified to make the cowl:
Cast on 40 stitches
Rows 1-5: knit
Row 6: k4, * yo, sl1kw, k1, psso, k6; repeat from * to last 12 stitches, yo, sl1kw, k1, psso, k10
Row 7 and all other odd numbered rows: k4, purl across to last 4 stitches, k4
Row 8: k4, * k1, yo, sl1kw, k1, psso, k3, k2tog, yo; repeat from * to last 12 stitches, k1, yo, sl1kw, k1, psso, k3, k2tog, yo, k4
Row 10: k4, * k2, yo, sl1kw, k1, psso, k1, k2tog, yo, k1; repeat from * to last 12 sts, k2, yo, sl1kw, k1, psso, k1, k2tog, yo, k5
Row 12: k4, * yo, k3tog, yo, k3, yo, sl1kw, k1, psso; repeat from * to last 12 sts, yo, k3tog, yo, k3, yo, sl1kw, k1, psso, k4
Row 14: k4, * k4, yo, sl1kw, k1, psso, k2; repeat from * to last 9 sts, k4, yo, sl1kw, k1, psso, k6
Row 16: k4, * k2, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, sl1kw, k1, psso, k1; repeat from * to last 9 sts, k2, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, sl1kw, k1, psso, k5
Row 18: k4, * k1, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, sl1kw, k1, psso; repeat from * to last 9 sts, k1, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, sl1kw, k1, psso, k4
Row 20: k4, * k2, yo, sl1kw, k1, psso, yo, k3tog, yo, k1; repeat from * to last 9 sts, k2, yo, sl1kw, k1, psso, yo, k3tog, yo, k5
Repeat rows 6 through 21 until desired length is reached. Then, knit all stitches for the last five rows to make a border.
Cast off and sew the ends together.
Here are more images of the finished cowl.
And all tied up to present as a gift. Tada!
