Parent/Caregiver Handouts
One of my colleagues told me that one of the ways we can encourage parents to participate is to give them printouts of the songs and rhymes we use. This way, they can participate with the child beside them, or on their lap, and the handout close by. Here are the ones we used for this storytime:

The Plan
Welcome Song*
Up Down Turn Around*
Hands Are Clapping*
A Little Introduction
Book: The Duckling Gets A Cookie by Mo Willems
Action Rhyme: Who Stole The Cookies From The Cookie Jar? (with toys for each child)
Song: Pat-a-cake
Book: Who Made This Cake?
Activity: baking school...make our own cookies with play-doh
Activity: Cookie Match-Up
Song: Bread and Butter (with tapping sticks)
Craft: Chef's Hat
Bubbles and Colouring Sheet
_______________
Welcome Song
(sing to tune of “London Bridge is Falling Down”)
Hi hello and how are you
How are you? How are you?
Hi hello and how are you?
How are you today?
It’s a bright and sunny day
Sunny day, sunny day
It’s a bright and sunny day
For storytime and play!

Stretching Rhyme: Up Down Turn Around
Up, down
Turn around
Touch the sky
Touch the ground
Wiggle fingers
Wiggle toes
Wiggle shoulders
Say hello!

Song: Hands Are Clapping
(sing to tune of “Skip To My Lou”)
Hands are clapping
Clap clap clap
Hands are clapping
Clap clap clap
Hands are clapping
Clap clap clap
Clap your hands my darling!

Continue with …
-feet are stomping
-arms are flapping

End with …
Now let’s sit on the floor
Now let’s sit on the floor
Now let’s sit on the floor
Sit on the floor my darling!

Or continue more actions …
Toast in the toaster
Getting very hot
Tick tock tick tock
Up you pop!

A Little Introduction
I talked about a chef's hat, apron, some of the tools used, and what foods the kids like. One of them said they like broccoli!

Book: The Duckling Gets A Cookie by Mo Willems

Action Rhyme: Who Stole The Cookies From The Cookie Jar? (with toys for each child)
Who stole the cookies from the cookie jar?
(clap to the rhythm of the words)
_____ stole the cookies from the cookie jar.

(clap to the rhythm of the words)
Who me?
(kids point to their stuffed animal when they say "Who me?)
Yes, you!
(all point to the stuffed animal in question)
Couldn’t be!

(shake their heads)
Then who?
(hold out hands in a questioning gesture)

I asked each toddler to choose a stuffed animal, and then we sang a song based off the Who Took the Cookies from the Cookie Jar? book by Bonnie Lass and Philemon Sturges.

Song: Pat-a-cake
Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake baker's man
Bake me a cake as fast as you can
Pat it, and roll it, and mark it with a "b"
And put it in the oven for baby and me

We also did actions to this song as we were singing it. We sang the song twice because they seemed to enjoy the familiarity.

Book: Who Made This Cake? by Chichiro Nakagawa

The kids enjoyed the construction truck pictures :D It was a good introductory book to the next activity: Baking School!

Activity: Baking School
Using Playdoh and beads, we rolled and patted and made colourful cakes to put in a pretend oven.

Activity: Cookie Match-Up
I drew a hungry guy on the board and gave a cookie shape to each toddler. I called out the shapes of cookies he'd like to eat, and the kids would feed the hungry guy by dropping the cookie shape in a bucket.

Song: Bread and Butter (with tapping sticks)
Bread and butter, marmalade and jam,
Let’s tap our sticks as nice as we can!

Verses: quick, slow, quiet, loud

I got this from Jbrary, which is an awesome resource for storytime!

Craft: Chef's Hat
This craft was a little complicated to prepare because of the folding component. It makes a really nice paper chef hat though, so I think it's totally worth the folding troubles @~@ I used this guy's tutorial for help with folding.

Materials:
-cardboard, cut into long strips
-foam letters, dye cuts shapes, stickers (for decorating)
-coloured paper
-tape
-glue

Afterward, the parents and caregivers took pictures of their chef toddlers :D

Bubbles and Handouts
I handed out a cookies and baking themed colouring sheet and blew bubbles for the kids.

Credits: I took the songs and rhymes from a variety of sources, some from work, and others from different parts of the internet. I will try to give credit where it is due, so if something is yours and I haven't credited you, please let me know and I will link back to you. Thank you!
